CAG Outreach Event #1 -- Granada Hill Street Fair

Before I get started on updating the public, I need to disclose that the information below represents my own views -- Dr. Mike Kaiser -- one of the CAG members serving presently on the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.

One of the major tasks of the Community Advisory Group (CAG) is to collect information from community members who have been impacted by the Aliso Canyon Disaster.  That information would be incorporated into the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study, which is being organized by the CAG and the Scientific Oversight Committee (SOC).

In light of this, the Granada Hills Street Fair seemed to be a perfect opportunity to gather information from the community.  Additionally, the street fair seemed like an excellent opportunity to introduce the CAG and SOC along with the fact that the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study is a result of the settlement with SoCalGas and directed by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH).

I was at the booth for a few hours with two fellow CAG members, Melissa Messer and Patty Glueck.  We were available to answer questions regarding the CAG with anyone interested in learning further about the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.  The booth is shown below with posters all around them.

The poster on the right-hand side detailed the settlement and the introduction of the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.  As you can see in the photo, visitors were able to stop by and ask two employees (Joe) about the research study.  LADPH employees were super helpful in setting up the booth with all of the appropriate outreach information, as shown below:

Additionally, they provided a heat map of the San Fernando Valley while collecting notes and health concerns about the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Study.  The heat maps are shown below with participants interacting with LADPH:

The total comments received were written up and contained in a document that can be accessed by clicking here.  Throughout the day, the CAG members answered questions by the public.

The most significant contribution to the CAG was the collection of concerns and notes by LADPH from the public.  The health comments and health concerns will be super important to contribute toward the creation of an exceptional health study regarding the Aliso Canyon natural gas blowout disaster.

Looking into the future, more outreach events by the CAG will strengthen the study aspects of the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.  Keep coming back and visiting this site for updates on the progress of the CAG and SOC.  In addition, please keep in mind that all CAG meetings are open to the public.  Keep informed and stay up to date on the Health Research Study.
